RSS and The 80/20 Rule - How To Gain More Back Links To Your Website in Much Less Time

By Megan Carruth

Link building. It's the topic that just won't go away; the ultimate SEO time zapper. And as search engines move towards more eloquent and sophisticated link analysis algorithms, link building will continue to be to be a main stay in SEO.

But with such enormous emphasis placed on quality backlinks, and with so little hours in a day to acquire them, how can webmasters optimize their link building to get more links in less time?

The answer lies in Pareto's Principle: By observing the 80/20 rule.

Here's why.

Many "high returning" link building methods that you hear about within the expert SEO-sphere are also high risk; especially for a novice or intermediate SEO. A high quality, relevant article takes time to concept and to write. If submission at your channel of choice doesn't pan out the way you hoped, (say it gets buried on Digg) your options become severely limited. Meaning, you've now got duplicate content on your hands, and no one wants duplicate content. If not risky, distributing content manually over multiple channels is, at best, time consuming.

Other examples of link building time zappers are surprisingly some of the most tried and true methods: Forum marketing and directory submission.

While these are totally viable and effective link building methods, (assuming you choose reputable and high PR forums and directories) they also can yield diminishing returns. The value of a few forum and directory links just isn't justified by the time spent manually acquiring them, time that could be spend on methods charged with producing 80% of your returns.

So where, then, should you concentrate this magical 20%?

Syndication.

Let me say this again:

Syndication.

I'm not talking about just creating an RSS feed for your blog. I'm talking about transferring a good portion of all of that link building time and energy into time spent understanding, targeting and leveraging a good content syndication strategy.

Understand that RSS is compounding function; one that can increase your backlinks exponentially. An RSS link is the link that keeps on linking... so of course you want to maximize its effectiveness. You can do just that by following a few simple guidelines that, when applied within the context of the 80/20 rule, will gain you more backlinks in less time:

First, identify the audiences you should be reaching, and then maximize that reach. For example, encourage your customers to receive updates about your business from a "what's new" section of your website or reach your peers and top business referrers by offering a feed from your industry related blog.

Leverage your resources by expanding your web properties and setting up feeds for them. Cross link accordingly and point back to your main domain within some your feed items. Identify new topics and resources appropriate for content syndication, and research sites that pull content from your genre (so you can submit your content there!)

Leverage other people's resources.

Wanna be picked up by Google News? Submit your article to a site that's syndicated with them. It's surprisingly easy to get published with some of these sources (americanchronical.com is one example,) and if you're picked up you could gain backlinks in massive quantities, not to mention invaluable exposure.

Optimize, promote and track your feeds.

Make sure your RSS systems automatically notifies RSS search engines and news feeds of your recent content adds. SEO your feed templates and create a linking strategy to and from your feed content. The importance of enlisting subscribers from your website can not be overestimated; continually experiment with new ways to call your visitors to action within your blog content and create metrics to understand how your efforts are working to achieve maximum subscribers.

RSS aside, the 80/20 rule applies to all areas link building, not just syndication. A theoretical formula for approaching a link building strategy from Pareto's perspective can be reduced to this:

20% of your link building time will result in 80% of your links. It therefore stands to reason that figuring out what that 20% winner is, and then expanding it, is the most viable means of getting more back links in less time.

8 Steps to RSS

By Sean R Mize Platinum Quality Author

There are several Internet bloggers who are making use of RSS feeds, but they don't truly succeed. So that you don't get to follow their unfortunate path, here are 8 steps to RSS:

1. Describe your RSS. You have to provide at least a brief overview of what your RSS feed is. You can also make use of this part so you can add your keywords. This way, even your RSS becomes searchable in search engines.

2. Include the publishing dates. It's your responsibility to inform your visitors if what they're reading is old news. Another method is to archive all of your older entries. This is because they tend to get buried among the newer ones.

3. Stick to the terms and conditions. If you don't like your RSS feeds to be cut off indefinitely, make sure that you have fully understood and are honoring the policies of your RSS syndicator.

4. Post consistently. Usually, feeds get cut off if you don't post anything new for your RSS feeds. You basically don't have to do this every day. Even once every week is good enough for a start.

5. Break your text. Long texts can certainly bore your visitors, and you don't like that. It may be best if you can utilize images or present important points in bullet form.

6. Include the number of comments. Let your visitors know that you have a topic worth discussing for. When they know they're a lot who participated, then most likely, they will be encouraged to join.

7. Share a little of yourself. Don't forget to give your readers snippets of yourself with your feeds. This way, you can be more personal with your approach.

8. Add an RSS feed icon. An RSS button makes it very much easier for your readers to share your feeds with others or even bookmark you. Think of how much additional traffic it can give you.

Best RSS - 5 Best Methods to Advance in RSS

By Sean R Mize Platinum Quality Author

Another great improvement on the Internet is the creation of RSS. It is an acronym for Real Simple Syndication where web users can subscribe to the content of their favorite web pages directly via their desktop computers. It's also a positive development for webmasters, bloggers, and online businesses because they will have an easy way to deliver web content to internet users. You can use RSS to promote your website, keep your blog readers, or if you have something to sell you can directly feed your new product information, updates and promotional gimmicks. There are 5 best methods to advance in RSS. These can help you in your marketing and promotional campaign using RSS.

1. Content is always important. The success of your RSS drive depends on how important is your content. Web users subscribe to feeds primarily because they want useful information delivered to them regularly.

2. Always update your content on a regular basis. It would not help your RSS drive if you don't have something new to offer. Web users will just delete their subscription and look for other feeds.

3. Usually, RSS feeds are delivered to the subscriber's computer showing only the title of your content. So, it is important that you create catchy titles that can surely grab the attention of your readers.

4. Whether you are publishing from your web site or blog, don't forget to place the orange RSS button on it. Put it in a prominent place in your web pages so that web users can easily spot it and if they like your content, subscribe from your site.

5. When publishing content, always double check for errors. Remember that RSS feeds are delivered instantly and in real time. You don't want your subscribers to read content full of errors. They can instantly access your feeds upon publishing it, so be very careful when you broadcast your web content.

6 Steps to Get Started with RSS

By Sean R Mize Platinum Quality Author

An RSS feed will be a truly great resource not only to your website but to your target market as well. This is because you can feed them with new contents every day, something that they're looking forward to.

Here are 6 steps to get started with RSS:

1. Don't feel too obsessed. Technology such as RSS can compel you to get "addicted." Information overload, however, is not good to your readers. Leave them with something enough room to arouse curiosity and enrich their minds.

2. Set a good time to do an RSS feed. An RSS feed requires time from you too. As much as possible, you should allocate a definite period when you can write articles or look for excellent feeds to share to your readers.

3. Archive your RSS feeds. Older articles in archives can be left in oblivion as newer ones take over the feeds. However, there will always be a number of your customers who may be interested with these historical articles. You can then set up an RSS archives and deliver these archived articles right to their inbox.

4. Include feeds from other websites. You can generally improve your contents by adding at least 3 feeds from other niche-related websites into yours. This way, you can provide more information to your target customers or to your blog readers.

5. Use great descriptions for your RSS feeds. Your RSS should capture the attention of your readers.

6. Submit your RSS to RSS directories. You don't have to rely solely on direct traffic. You can further increase it by submitting your RSS feeds to directories. This is to inform your untapped market that you have an RSS feed that will be of great use to them right at their own website.

Quick RSS - Time Tested Strategies to Quickly Profit With RSS

By Sean R Mize Platinum Quality Author

Utilizing Rss for any business is a great move. It allows your products to move more quickly and generate bigger profits for your company. Not surprisingly, a lot of people then know that utilizing rss is a great advantage for their business.

RSS can be sent through email. These are like your normal everyday email but with RSS embedded on it. The good thing about this is that these kinds of RSS emails are not screened using spam filters so they reach the inboxes of users instead of being directed to the Bulk folder.

An RSS feed button placed on your website is also a smart move, because this way all of your updates will automatically be sent to your many subscribers. One of the benefits of having RSS feeds on your site is that it will increase the flow of traffic to your business - and every well-meaning internet marketer knows that the bigger the traffic, the better the profits. If your RSS feed becomes popular, you will earn profits a lot faster. Also, adding an RSS feed to your blog or your website will also increase your rankings in search engines. The better ranking your page gets, the more money you earn. So you also need to update your website on a regular basis to ensure that people visit it from time to time, thereby increasing your chances of being ranked high on the search engines listings.

Profits can even be increased by charging a small fee for your RSS, but this can only be done if you really offer some very vital and unique content that is hugely in demand with your clients. Remember that your RSS content should be a hundred times better than your competitor's in order to actually be worthy of the charger you are planning to introduce to your subscribers.

Fast RSS - Express Advice for Fast RSS

By Sean R Mize Platinum Quality Author

As surprising as it may sound, not many people know about RSS, or rich site summary. Only a few people really get to utilize this functional technology mainly because it is still quite a novel idea in the realm of online business. But of course, with the passing of time comes a heightened awareness and a greater appreciation for such technology - people will soon recognize its potential for success and utilize it more often. But of course, before it becomes popular and experiences a boom quite unlike any other technological innovation we have witnessed in the past two or three years, you need to get ahead in the game by using it right here, right now. Try out RSS and see for yourself just how wonderful it is for your business. And to help you start of with it, here are some really great express tips that will put you on your way to faster RSS utilization.

The first thing you need to consider is giving your RSS feed a proper title and a corresponding description. When you create titles and descriptions, you must remember that you are incorporating relevant, meaningful and search-worthy keywords. Of course, it is also important to strive for originality. Do not copy the RSS feeds of other people because this will result in plagiarism problems for you. In your haste to create good RSS titles in the shortest possible time by duplicating another's, you might end up with more problems than you have bargained for. Along this line, strive to follow copyright rules. You should not republish previous RSS feed contents. This is a really big problem for a lot of RSS feeders - sometimes they are so comfortable and settled in their work, thinking that they have it all down pat and then they discover that they violate the law. To stray away from such a problem, always read through your feed content to make sure that everything is all right with it.

Best RSS - Make More Money with RSS

By Sean R Mize Platinum Quality Author

Starting RSS is not that difficult at all. There are so many ways to get started with getting control of the RSS and the increase in sales will be noticeable for sure. You must know that feeds come in different styles and characteristics. There are different variables that affect the overall outcome of the RSS feeds. There is a certain criterion which you can consider when you want to adopt it.

Some only offer the partial feeds where readers have to check out the main website for the complete information on the product or service, while some already give out the complete feeds. It only goes to show that internet marketers must know first the characteristics of the feed in order to use it wisely. The method of distribution is of course, very important but how the feed is perceived by others will definitely improve your RSS strategies more.

Your clients are hungry for interesting content that is why you should make your content powerful enough to feed their interest. Some internet marketers write blogs or hold online press releases to increase people's awareness of their market. Article marketing also is another effective way to promote your products with a twist.

Once you have an RSS feed already, the next thing you have to do is to create a content that is informational and at the same time, appealing. Some RSS feeds are boring and this would eventually cause your clients to search for the next site. After making good content, you should then keep your RSS feed up to date and fresh. Large dose creativity will definitely be needed and you should build a good, healthy relationship with your customers. RSS advertising will surely be easier if you can easily communicate with your clients. Spam filters should be avoided as much as possible.

RSS Feeds - The Basics For Everyday People

By Kimberly Clay Platinum Quality Author

Undoubtedly, you have visited various websites as you search the Internet for information, and you see icons or read messages that invite you to subscribe to the site's "RSS Feed". But you may not really understand what an RSS feed is.

RSS stands for "really simple syndication". As you surf the Internet, you invariably find a number of sites that have information that you would like to see more of or which you wish to track. The problem you face is having to manually go to the sites checking for any new updates.

RSS is a technology that allows you to check new information on the web sites you're interested in right from your desktop browser, without having to visit the site itself. RSS solves the problem of having to manually visit and check a site for new information by bringing the web pages to you instead of you going to them.

In order to use RSS, you simply need to have access to a computer and an Internet connection. You also need an RSS reader or an aggregator. The RSS reader will display a headline of the new posting along with a brief synopsis of the related content. You read the synopsis and if it interests you, you click on the headline, which will take you directly to the web page it is published on. You can have as many RSS subscriptions as you want.

As a webmaster, you can use RSS to promote your own website. When used properly, RSS can be a potent marketing tool. You enlist other sites to subscribe to your RSS feed, and display your updated content on their home pages. This allows you to reach new audiences to which you would not otherwise have access, and helps to spread your information exponentially.

RSS is simple to offer (no pun intended) and equally simple for your subscribers to use. Because of its simplicity, it is sometimes a preferred marketing method when compared to email newsletter marketing. Many people are choosing to subscribe to RSS feeds for instant information rather than subscribe to email newsletters.

RSS is a convenient form of information distribution, and because people can easily subscribe or unsubscribe at any time, it's a tool with which they're very comfortable. The benefit to you is that as a webmaster, you get your web site broadcast to potentially millions of people through RSS, and you can also use RSS as a means to get fresh updated content for your site too.

RSS and Pipes are the Future of Real Estate Content

By Reggie Nicolay

Lately I have been hearing a lot of talk about a technology called Yahoo Pipes, and what it can do to streamline RSS feeds. So today we are going to demystify RSS and Pipes for your benefit!

Let's Talk RSS
To start, you must be noticing it gets harder and harder each day to keep up on all the great content accross the web. You likely know that Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is an easy way to keep up with this ever changing content. Rather than going out to each of your favorite sites one by one to see if they have new and appealing content for you, RSS is designed to bring the content of the sites you subscribe to right to your desktop via a Feed Reader. So rather than individually visiting 25 blogs in a row...simply open your reader and browse all content from one location. Your content comes to you!

Yahoo Pipes Technology Explained
Ok, now that you understand RSS let's talk about Pipes. The term originally comes from UNIX and means roughly the output from each process is chained together creating a new output. Think of aggregation. You can say that pipes are the natural evolution of the RSS feed. Think about the current state of the blogosphere. Today you write a post on ActiveRain, tomorrow on Zolve, then Trulia and of course there is that guest post you recently did on another blog favorite. Plus this whole time you have been posting on your own blog. So how do you take all this content and mash it up into one feed for your readers? Introducing Yahoo Pipes.

Yahoo Pipes will aggregate and mashup content from around the web using RSS, data sorts, filters and translation. (Did I mention that no programming is required?) So in the example I mentioned above, the pipe you create could be a mashup of all your posts in one place-filtered by your name.

Let's Build a Pipe
To get started, go to Yahoo Pipes and register for your free account. Once you have logged in, click the "Create a Pipe" button. You'll notice the canvas appears. Start by simply dragging the module titled "Fetch Feed" from the library pane on the left side onto your working canvas. One by one enter the feeds that you would like to combine. Click the "+" sign to the left of URL to add another feed. Repeat the steps as necessary. Now drag out modules from the library such as "Sort" and "Filter". Make sure you connect each module by its connecters. Once you have customized your pipe, click the save button and name the feed. Now click properties and give your feed a description and tags. Congratulations! Now save and publish your feed.

See an example of a pipe here. This is a combination of NikNik's posts here at Technology for Real Estate and the HelpMyAgent blog. See tutorials here.

Productive RSS - Moneymaking RSS for Your Business

By Sean R Mize Platinum Quality Author

RSS, short for Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication, makes integrating content from various sites into one webpage possible. It helps you keep track of the content of your favorite site with just one quick glance. If you own a website, you definitely want to make it possible for visitors to get feeds from your site. It makes advertising much easier. If you're interested in this, here's what you need to know:

1.) The first thing you need to know is create an RSS news channel. You can use a tool for RSS syndication, and this is often integrated into the content management software you are using. If not, you can easily download one.

2.) The next step is actually create the file of your RSS feed. You can do this by clicking on "Build RSS." A code will be generated, and you need to save it in a file with one of the following extensions: .rdf, .xml, or.rss.

3.) Now it's time to upload the RSS file to your web server. By this time, the file can be viewed by news aggregators already.

4.) Make sure that errors are not present in your RSS file. An error in the code will result in the feed from your site not properly syndicated. Remember that this feed is going to be broadcast to a large number of people so it's best that your code is presentable from the get-go.

5.) Once you're sure that everything's perfect with your code, you can put the orange icon bearing the letters XML on your website. This icon should bear a hyperlink your RSS feed's URL. Visitors can easily click on this icon if they want to get feeds from your site.

6.) You can also go to RSS site directories to register your RSS feed. These sites are free so there's no reason not to register. They provide exposure to your RSS feed, which is a good thing for your site.

7.) Once you have enabled feeds to be sent from your site, it's your responsibility to keep your content updated. People choose to get feeds to get the latest content; if you don't update your site, they'll have every reason to stop getting feeds from you.

8.) You can decide whether to use a partial feed, or a full feed. The option depends on what is better suited for your site.

RSS - 3 Big Hits to a Productive RSS

By Sean R Mize Platinum Quality Author

Really Simple Syndication or RSS is a revolutionizing marketing tool that is evolving in the business industry. Although this marketing tool has used to be a misnomer in the marketing arena, it has gradually gained recognition and notice from business marketers because of its “genius” way on targeting the objective – that is to generate traffic and soar-up sales for the company. RSS tool to be used effectively basically requires a few careful thought on the following tips:

• On your title, make sure that essential keywords are placed on it. By doing this, you are capturing basically your client’s attention to give your site a possible visit and all at the same time targeting the attention of your search engine too. As we all know, search engines are keyword seekers. The more relevant keywords they see on your site, the more the think that it is client-friendly.

• Do not copy or imitate even to the slightest degree your RSS content feed. Copying and imitating are basically a no-no when it comes to RSS content writing. Not only this brings bad image on your company, but in its entirety, the action is wrong. Borrowing something from someone else and owning it as yours is a big foul play.

• Make necessary polishing on your RSS feeds from time to time. BY what I mean by time-to-time is that a regular monitoring and updating should be made with your RSS feeds. This is to be done to make sure that visiting clients do not see all the time the things that they use to see. Stagnated contents are sore in the eyes of net users. Be not a sore to them.

Fast RSS - Benefits of RSS You Can't Do Without

By Sean R Mize Platinum Quality Author

RSS stands for Rich Site Summary or RDF Site Summary. If that sounds too technical for you, think of RSS as just Really Simple Syndication. And it is indeed quite simple. The principle behind RSS is to syndicate or group together links of specific interest in one page, which acts as a repository of URLs.

RSS has a lot of benefits, and here are some fast RSS facts to illustrate that point:

1. RSS helps in increasing your site’s link popularity. As long as your RSS feeds are updated on a regular basis, search engines will be able to frequently index your pages. The result is that your site will have more prominence in search engine rankings.

2. RSS is an advertising tool. With RSS, you can make real-time advertising work on your favor. Because RSS feeds automatically appear in pages linked to them, people who want the freshest news and announcements will be the ones who are vigilant in checking updates. If you’re the first among your competitors to offer a good deal, interested customers will notice it, and they will be likely to avail of your offers.

3. RSS provides an effective way to distribute press releases. Because of the nature of RSS, wherein information is shared through feeds, you only need to make one posting of your press releases and have them automatically uploaded and displayed in real-time.

4. RSS makes sure your site reaches the people who will be interested in it. RSS gives people an option to customize their own sites to be filled with content they’re interested in, so if a person sets his site to receive RSS feeds from your site, then he is indeed an interested customer. This is a form of targeted marketing that results in quality traffic.

RSS - On Time Delivery

By Scott Lindsay Platinum Quality Author

The New York Times may be credited for the acceptance of Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds. This newspaper was one of the first large scale adopters of the technology and paved the way for others to see the usefulness of RSS.

RSS allows individuals to sign up for virtually any kind of new content feed from a website and permit that information to be downloaded to a ‘reader’ on the individual’s computer.

Some of the earliest attributions of RSS were for Netscape users. However, when AOL purchased Netscape support for this feature was removed from the system.

There was even a controversy as to who actually had ownership of the RSS feed idea.

Today you will find audio, video, news and knowledge-based text being automatically sent to RSS subscribers without the need for these individuals to rediscover the originating website.

The reasons RSS has tremendous marketing potential is that it can serve as a means of more definitely targeting a core groups of site enthusiasts.

When a visitor clicks on the RSS emblem on your website they are saying they want to be informed when new data is placed on your site. This is important because it goes beyond simply signing up to be informed of any specials through email marketing. RSS users are saying they are interested enough in what you have available that they want to remain in the loop on new developments within your site.

When audio or video is accessed through an RSS feed that video or audio is downloaded to the recipients account for playback. These Internet users don’t have to wonder when something new is available and they don’t have to worry about download times it is taken care of automatically.

If you were to go to a furniture store and request a certain type of furniture the company may have to special order the merchandise and then call you when it arrived to make arrangements for delivery.

Imagine what as RSS feed could do for shopping. Customers can be informed, free products can be downloaded automatically and the customer remains pleased that they were among the first to gain access to the latest information or download.

This same scenario is happening for news sources, sports sites and millions of other consumer oriented websites around the world.

To think, RSS might have gone away completely, but there were a few who believed in the potential of RSS. As more and more websites caught the vision for how RSS feeds could improve their online visibility the service returned, was embraced and became a new standard in on time delivery on the web.

Fast RSS - Why Having Good RSS Helps

By Sean R Mize Platinum Quality Author

RSS (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary) in the world of podcasting and advertising is basically just newsfeed – it describes the content and information about the podcast or news or updates and links the listener to the MP3 file or webpage. It practically sounds simple and no-nonsense right? But is it possible to make the most of whatever opportunity RSS can offer – so that any person or company will get more listeners to tune in and more subscribers to read an up-to-the-minute report? Of course!

The best tip is to invest on intelligent and strategic advertising. Banners and links with embedded RSS found in frequently visited websites increase the chances of surfers checking out the link. So go ahead and pay a popular site for more exposure, that surely will not be any loss at all! Another is to use email – as long as the person or company does not input content that may probably qualify as “spam” or “junk” in most inboxes, an embedded RSS can serve the purpose. After opting for these, remember the value of constantly updating – after all, people get bored easily if the same set of words or alike pattern of images. By sprinkling creativity in the RSS, then it will make true impact on the target audience.

A good and concise RSS assures more traffic in the website and more surfers to check information out – because the basics are already there, they simply have to click it! People know the value of quick and efficient things and they take the fast route when it comes to the internet. So really – a good RSS helps any person or company that wants to be in the spotlight.

Proven Efficient Ways to RSS

By Sean R Mize Platinum Quality Author

RSS or Really Simple Syndication is a technology that may not have gained wide acceptance from the online users, but it is gaining fast recognition as one of the most effective ways to generate traffic on your site. Really Simple Syndication does not actually dwell on a complicated process. In fact, when you look at it, it is not as hard as how people think about it. So, if you want to engage on doing the RSS thing, the guidelines below may help you maximize the potentials of it:

- In creating an RSS feed, always include on it the title and the description. You have to remember that what is meant by title and description is that it should be relevant and meaningful keywords. You have to admit the fact that net users make use of search terms to search for something. It is best that your title and description adheres with the keyword requirement to ensure your RSS gets the best of the search engine results.

- When creating an RSS feed, it is essential that readers are informed about the freshness of the data. By including the date of publication, readers will have the idea about the current status of your RSS content contained on the feed.

- Enhance your RSS feed. Make sure that you make all necessary modifications on your RSS feed to ensure that they become reader-friendly. This may help your RSS feed generate more visits from net users. You may also consider embedding some graphics on your feeds to make it a little enticing to visitors.

Podcasting and the RSS Connection

By Scott Lindsay Platinum Quality Author

There can be enormous marketing benefits to podcasting. Podcasting is the ability to download a segment of audio for playback. This audio source can be entertaining or simply educational.

Many individuals will peruse various websites looking for podcasts they would like to listen to. This is a normal and accepted use for podcasting, but the implementation of a Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feed makes it possible to avoid several steps and save time in the process.

When you subscribe to an RSS feed it is possible to have the podcast downloaded to your computer. This process eliminates the need to specifically visit the site and spend the time needed to access a download.

Essentially when you are out golfing or shopping at the mall a new podcast can be published and your RSS feed can access the podcast automatically and download it for you. When you get back from participating in life the podcast is ready for you to enjoy.

The good news is podcasts are portable. You can download the RSS fed podcast to a portable mp3 device and plug it into a compatible car stereo or you can simply use the ear buds on an mp3 player and listen in wherever you are.

Originally podcasts were very simple audio ramblings that were meaningful only to computer technicians who were wanting to know more about a variety of computer related issues. Today broadcast professionals who produce talk shows use podcasts; morning shows and interviews are also available to motivated listeners through an RSS fed podcast.

Like digital video recorders for television, podcasting allows popular programs to be readily accessed in an on demand world.

In many ways this process is changing the way individuals are responding to life. Podcasting has allowed traditional radio listeners to enjoy life and still listen to what they want, but they do so WHEN they want to and not when it may originally air on a radio station in their area.

The integration of delivery methods has allowed audio to become a part of the everyman experience and allows it to connect with the listener on their terms. This may be causing some disturbance in traditional radio listening, but many radio stations are compensating by making much of their programming available through an RSS fed podcast or live stream.

Podcasting is also becoming a prime marketing component in online business especially when the material is informative and worth referring to often.

In an on demand world how are you compensating for customer expectations? How does podcasting fit in those expectations?

How To Optimize Your RSS Feeds For The Search Engines

By Joe Rispoli Platinum Quality Author

When you create an RSS Feed it is recommended that you use the same search engine optimization tactics as you would with a normal html website.

Here are some simple steps that you can take to help optimize an RSS Feed for the search engines:

1. The title must contain keywords relating to the content of your RSS Feed. It is important that the title is relevant to the content and does not mislead the reader.

2. Display an RSS Feed on your website. By displaying a feed on a website and providing fresh content, the search engines will spider the website regularly. The more often your website is updated with fresh content the more regularly the search engines will index your site.

3. Internal links. Within your feed make sure to always use the full path of any links. Other websites may syndicate the contents of your RSS Feed and if the links within the feed are not fully qualified then they will not work! Links should also launch a new browser thus keeping visitors on your website.

4. Emphasize keywords in your link text. The search engines will use the text in the feeds internal links to help identify the keywords to use for your RSS feed.

So be sure to use keywords in any link text that points back to your website or feed.

5. My.MSN and My.Yahoo. The fastest way to get your RSS feed spidered by Yahoo or MSN is to include your feed on a personal my.yahoo or my.msn home page.

Just create an account on the search engines and set up the home page to include your RSS feed. The RSS feed will usually be indexed by Yahoo and MSN within 24 to 48 hours.

6. RSS Feed backlinks. Just like with a website you need to increase you feed's link popularity by submitting it to the appropriate directories. When submitting your feed be sure to choose the correct category. You can submit RSS feeds at: rss-specifications.com/rss-submission.htm

7. RSS Feed summary. Summaries or introductions are needed to provide additional information on an HTML site that will entice a reader to click through to view the entire item of the feed. By providing enough teaser copy you will allow your visitors to easily decide whether the content is something that is important to them.

8. Subscribe to your own RSS feed. How will you know what your subscribers are seeing unless you see it for yourself? Subscribing will also allow you to experiment with formatting and will show you when you may need to add HTML into your feed.

9. Most feed readers display feeds in the reader alphabetically. This means that if your RSS Feed title begins with A then it will probably appear in the top of the list in most feed readers. So keep this tip in mind if you think it is important for your feed to appear in the top of the list of most feed readers.

10. Every link in your feed is important. Each item tag in your RSS Feed should include a unique URL. This URL should send your visitors to information that is related to your feed.

You must produce quality content! It is your content that will keep your visitors coming back.

RSS Feeds are a simple and inexpensive method of marketing your site. By becoming a content provider now will only mean much greater benefits in the future.

Search engines tend to make even the most successful marketers feel powerless.

Avoid the wrath of the search engines by following these basic tips for optimizing your RSS Feed.

Gadgetized RSS For Corporate Intranet Feeds

By Alexey Polkovnikov

Have you heard anything about software gadgets-widgets? These are small visually reach software pieces that are hosted by products like Google Desktop, Microsoft Vista Sidebar, Yahoo! Widgets, Apple Dashboard, and some other always-on-top ribbon-like applications. Looks like all the software giants really intend to use the extra screen space that is available now on our pretty large modern screens. And you have definitely heard about RSS - the way Web news are transmitted from site to site or from site to desktop in our days, enabling to aggregate them and get nearly in real time.

What I would like to tell you about is how these two could make a corporate intranet ecosystem effective, easy-to-customize, and more attractive to the users (employees).

Nearly all companies now have their own intranet, an internal site that contains the information the employees need, we all saw it. But is it really friendly and attractive to make an employee visit these web-pages or regular basis while presenting all these boringly resembling each other pages? What if an employee needs/wants to check some information pretty frequently, 5 times a day, each hour, or closely to real time (say, it is a company quote)? Yes, RSS would help, but it still needs to be delivered, it is possible, as always, through a whole lot of existing RSS-reader applications, but this means that an employee still needs to switch to this application all the time.

So what looks to be really useful for such purposes is small elegant visually reach applications that can hang on the screen all the time while not taking a lot of screen room… yes gadgets/widgets for a standard gadget platform, like Google Desktop, that would enable a user to build his/her own information environment.

Our development team, Apexoft, has developed some Google Desktop RSS gadgets that can be used as a creeping line, teletype, picture rotator, or even to transform RSS feeds to speech. While mostly providing these to the individuals, we think they can be extremely valuable for corporate environment.

RSS - Capture the Feed However You Can

By Scott Lindsay Platinum Quality Author

If you are a user who has found a Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feed to be of benefit, you are not alone. This tool is gaining a huge following. In fact, the new Windows Vista software comes equipped with an RSS Reader for those customers who have upgraded to the new Windows platform.

It can be frustrating to visit a site that does not provide RSS features. One of the primary reasons to subscribe to an RSS feed is to help you locate new information you really want to investigate. An RSS feed provides a snapshot of the revised information so you can make an educated decision about whether you want to read up on the latest informational feed.

If a site does not offer RSS it may still be possible to utilize existing information streams to access the same information through an RSS feed. For example, if you have a specific writer that you like to keep tabs on you can use an RSS feed from some of the more notable search engines and directories. By setting up an RSS feed from one of these sources you may be informed a little later than a direct RSS feed, but the information should be sent when the new page is indexed with your favorite author’s name. If the site the article is published on is a trusted site this process usually doesn’t take long.

Some RSS users also are merging their RSS feeds with searchable email systems. In essence when a service like Gmail is used to receive RSS email feeds you can use their search function to return to any popular feed you wish.

The integration of technologies can allow RSS users greater flexibility in accessing and managing feeds and accessing the information long-term.

For any online company the markets using knowledge-based content it just makes sense to add an RSS feed for your site material.
